"The finest Munich art of brewing since 1634 - Paulaner is Munich tradition”

Great beer attracts attention. In 1634 the home brewing being done by the Paulaner Monks of the Neudeck Monastery captured the attention and taste buds of the beer lovers of Munich. In fact, the beer was so sought after that it also attracted the attention of the commercial brewers of Munich. Fearing competition, they petitioned the mayor to ban the brewing monks from selling their beer.

On February 24, 1634, the mayor rejected their complaint, allowing the monks to continue brewing. This date is now celebrated as the founding date of the Paulaner Brewery - an important day in Munich’s culture, tradition and history.
